John Fleenor is a Senior Researcher in the Product Development group at CCL. He conducts research and development activities on new and innovative products, including digital leadership tools and AI-driven leadership assessments. His focus is on the future of leadership assessment. Additionally, John serves as a member of the Assessment Review Board (ARB).
Since joining us in 1994, John has worked as research database manager, research scientist, and group director of knowledge management. As director of psychometrics, he was responsible for leading the research and development of 360-degree feedback instruments and other leadership assessments. John’s research interests include strategic 360 feedback, rapid-response personality measures, and digital leadership assessments.
John has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, and Leadership Quarterly. He’s the co-author of Leveraging the Impact of 360-Degree Feedback, co-editor of The Handbook of Strategic 360 Feedback, and the former book review editor of Personnel Psychology. He serves on the editorial boards of Leadership Quarterly, Human Resource Management, and the Journal of Business and Psychology.
For over 10 years, John served as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Psychology at North Carolina State University, where he taught courses in organizational psychology.
John has a PhD Industrial and Organizational Psychology from North Carolina State University.
John is a member of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP), North Carolina I/O Psychologists.
He is certified in 4MAT Design, Kirton Adaption-Innovation Inventory, and CCL’s Benchmarks® 360 assessment suite.
John has received multiple honors for his work, including the following:
