Current Role

Todd Deal is a senior faculty member in our Societal Impact group. He partners with institutions across the broad landscape of higher education to provide leadership education and leader development. Todd and his colleagues work across the spectrum of North American higher education from co-designing leadership programs for college students to facilitating leadership development initiatives for faculty, staff, and executives at the college, university, and system-level.

Experience

Before joining us, Todd’s 28-year career in higher education included rising through the faculty ranks to tenured full professor, during which time he also served as Associate Dean for Academic & Student Affairs and Executive Director for the Office of Leadership & Community Engagement in the Division of Student Affairs at Georgia Southern University.

He’s the founder of TDLearning, Inc. through which he is a sought-after speaker and leadership development professional having partnered with a variety of corporate, non-profit, and higher education institutions to provide innovative, strengths-based development experiences for professionals and students. His professional affiliations include the American Chemical Society, the International Leadership Association, the Association of Leadership Educators, and the National Clearinghouse for Leadership Programs.

In addition to his work in leadership education and leader development, Todd is co-author of a chemistry textbook (now in its 4th edition) for allied health students. The textbook is based on the innovative curriculum that he initiated and helped to develop. The curriculum focuses on integrating general, organic, and biochemistry concepts to explain chemical principles relevant to allied health students and their chosen profession. Todd and his co-authors published an investigation highlighting the curriculum’s enhancement of student engagement and learning in the Journal of Chemical Education (2006).

Education

Todd has a PhD in Chemistry from the Ohio State University and a BS in Chemistry from Georgia Southern University. He also has an executive education certificate in the Art & Practice of Leadership Development from Harvard Kennedy School and a graduate certificate in Leadership from Northeastern University.
