Center for Creative Leadership Headquarters Becomes Certified Wildlife Habitat

CCL Greensboro receives wildlife habitat certification.

The National Wildlife Federation (NWF), America’s largest wildlife conservation and education organization, recently recognized the North Carolina campus and global headquarters of the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL)® as a Certified Wildlife Habitat® through its Garden for Wildlife program. In addition, CCL has been co-certified with NWF’s state affiliate, the North Carolina Wildlife Federation.

NWF celebrates CCL’s effort to create a habitat that supports birds, butterflies, bees, frogs, and other local wildlife. Every Certified Wildlife Habitat provides natural sources of food and water, cover, and places to raise young, in addition to being maintained in a sustainable way that incorporates native plants and doesn’t rely on pesticides.

CCL received the certification for its Greensboro, North Carolina campus, which is also the nonprofit’s global headquarters. Wildlife preservation efforts are part of a broader organizational commitment to environmental, social, and corporate responsibility and fit into CCL’s holistic leadership approach.

“Recently we’ve added a pollinator garden and 2 bluebird houses which already have nests in them and native plants along the recently completed John Ryan Nature Trail,” Greensboro Facilities Manager Duncan Chapman said. “We’ve had deer, hawks, and red foxes born on campus, and regularly see other wildlife from turtles to owls. We’re proud that this certification officially recognizes CCL’s ongoing efforts and commitment to creating a beautiful campus experience for visitors, employees, and the animals that share our space.”

NWF’s Garden for Wildlife program works to recognize efforts made by communities toward creating and protecting spaces in nature that prioritize the wellbeing of wildlife.

“Anyone anywhere can restore wildlife habitats right in their own yards and communities,” said NWF Naturalist David Mizejewski. “It’s the perfect grassroots way to think globally and act locally and help birds, butterflies, bees and other wildlife.”

CCL’s North Carolina headquarters is not open to the public, but it is visited by hundreds of leaders annually from around the globe who attend CCL’s world-class leadership development programs. Intentionally set back from the road and nestled in the woods, the campuses nature trails and flora and fauna provide a relaxing and meditative escape ideal for mindful reflection, self-discovery, and professional growth.

Visitors and staff alike marvel at the range of flowering trees, chirping birds, and serenity offered by the campus. While this Certified Wildlife Habitat designation marks CCL’s headquarters as a refuge for wildlife and native plants, leaders attending CCL programs often describe it in much the same way.
